Generative AI on Sketchar: Our Vision for the Future of Creative Learning
We continue to share our vision of how creative learning and education will change with the use of AI.
Since 2019, we have taken the first steps towards analyzing each line that the user draws on Sketchar: where they made a mistake, where they got into the template, and even learning how to count the percentage of the drawing completeness. Machine learning in conjunction with several neural networks, trained on our own content, processes about 3 million drawings per month. Our second patent is dedicated to this - Drawing Monitor - a computer vision system that recognizes and tracks what Sketchar users draw (US 11,307,731 B2).
AI can personalize learning by adapting to individual needs and preferences, tracking progress, and customizing content accordingly for higher engagement.
With the use of generative AI techniques, we aim to revolutionize the creative learning experience on Sketchar by making it faster and more accessible to a wider audience, particularly those who feel they lack creative abilities.
The power of generative AI lies in its ability to identify fundamental patterns and structures in data and generate original educational content. With significant improvements in its effectiveness for everyday learning, this technology has now reached a critical stage where it can comprehend the artist's goals, offer a wide range of artistic learning features, assist with content creation, and allow for rapid iteration. Sketchar creators have already demonstrated how they use this technology to create art. However, these pre-made AI systems are not yet integrated with our platform and often require considerable follow-up work by the artist to make them suitable for Sketchar. Therefore, we see a great opportunity to develop generative AI tools that specifically meet Sketchar's needs.
The Value of Generative AI for People to Learn
Currently, Sketchar offers a variety of learning content to facilitate the creation of an artistic experience, such as step-by-step drawing lessons, courses, and mini-games. These elements are interconnected with the canvas and toolset, which are reinforced by a recommendation system that governs the core behavior of the platform. While courses are an essential part of the platform, creators are responsible for acquiring or learning everything else necessary to create art. We are convinced that generative AI tools can be applied to all of these creative processes. Our internal prototypes have already demonstrated that specialized generative AI tools not only enhance the learning process but also considerably reduce the time required to develop the requisite drawing skills needed to bring ideas to life.
For example, some Sketchar creators may have some drawing skills but limited experience in producing specific art styles, such as excelling in sketching doodles but lacking experience in more complex, multidimensional works. Our vision for the future of Sketchar is to empower even beginners to bring their creative ideas to life with ease, regardless of their prior experience or skill level.
In addition, the emergence of generative AI will enable artists to produce art with embedded instructions. For instance, an artist could generate an object by inputting a basic prompt like "A portrait of Lil Nas X as a sketch style". The resulting creation would not only resemble a finished artwork but also contain all the sequential steps encoded within it, which could be used in a comprehensive drawing tutorial for character design.
This endeavor is unparalleled as creating educational material necessitates a profound comprehension of learning methodologies. Given the wide range of educational possibilities available on Sketchar, we are presented with a distinctive opportunity to build a generative model that can encompass various types of content concurrently, including lessons, courses, educational games, and beyond.
Everyone becomes a creator
We aim to build a platform that empowers every user to acquire creative skills, irrespective of their familiarity with the Sketchar app or other digital art creation tools. We hold the belief that numerous experiences on Sketchar will evolve into learning opportunities, where individuals can generate a new artwork, a complete lesson, or even an entire course, all within another experience.
Realizing this vision demands a set of tools that are considerably more attainable for the average user than what is presently available in any educational setting - tools such as games or collaborative features as opposed to video lessons. Generative AI tools can aid in making learning instinctive, seamless, and captivating for users, and can be directly integrated into experiences.
We have yet to develop this system, and most importantly make it convenient and useful for users, but it is encouraging that the time has come when AI is able to personalize learning, adapting to individual needs and preferences, tracking progress and adjusting content accordingly to increase engagement.
